RECORD TURN-OUT AT Rd 1 OF THE ORWELL LADIES LEAGUE
Last night saw over 35 female cyclists representing thirteen Clubs from near and far afield make the ascent up to Johnny Fox’s Pub, Glencullen in idyllic weather for Round 1 of the Orwell Wheelers Ladies Criterium League - a tough, draggy 5km time trial along the Pine Forest. All ages and levels were represented with the turn-out ranging from underage, juniors, and beginners racing their first TT to current and former Irish Track and Road Champions.

Despite the wide range of cycling equipment present from low pros to hybrids, everyone gave the time trial their all, and overall the times were very close and competitive. These times will now be used to seed the five criterium rounds which will follow at Sandyford Industrial Estate.

Lucan rider Roisin Kennedy demonstrated her time trialing prowess, and was the fastest overall in an excellent time of 9 minutes 40. This time was followed closely with Joanna Hickey from Usher IRC (Elite Irish Ladies Squad & National 500TT Champion) in 2nd place at 9.44 and Heather Boyle of Ravens (National Pursuit Champion) in 3rd at 10.13.  Track Specialist Andrea Fagan from Sundrive (National Irish Development Squad) was the best of the conventional bikes, riding on the drops to a fantastic time of 10.42. Orla Hendron of Orwell and Orla McEvoy of Bray Wheelers (last year’s Boot Inn League winner) were split by no more than 5 hundredths of a second for 5th & 6th places at 10.52.
