Susie Mitchell : CycloX Supremo!!

Posted November 21, 2011

Three out of three for Susie when she took first Lady at the 4th Round of The Steevens Supercross Cup at St Annes Park today. She achieved this despite a heavy fall on gravel which left her with a deep cuts on her knee. She remounted immediately as was not willing to surrender her lead and goes into the final round in Tymon Park on December 3rd in prime position! The course today was quite spectacular with some tricky downhill bits. Sundrive was also represented by Keith Meghan, new signing Ger McNamara and Hugh Byrne and were well supported by Alec Darragh, John Coates and Margaret, Ciaran Johnson and Caroline Martinez. A super club day out for riders and supporters

Club Touring Section

Posted September 7, 2011

We are a club based at the Track in Sundrive Road, Crumlin and were formed 3 years ago to help promote Track Cycling within the locality and to provide a flagship for riders primarily interested in track racing. Saying that our members also race Road, Mtb and CycloX and more recently we have added Touring to this list. We are fortunate to have attracted a wealth of experience and knowledge to our club and those with that knowledge have always been generous in sharing it and indeed our members are vastly experienced in coaching and have expanded this  through courses and week in week out track sessions which we run at Sundrive.  We also recognise that to grow as a club we have to expand our net wider and the direction we are looking at is looked to promote a touring section as we see the world of Sportives is forever growing and there there is a large number of riders out there that would benifit from our help. One of our newer members Ciaran Johnson has benifited from our help and has completed several milestone Sportives during the year and has offered to run this section with our help. Our first spin will be Sunday 2nd October from the Popes Cross in the Phoenix Park at 10am. Our intended destination for the spin un Tara (Tea Shop!!) and will split the group by ability and perhaps send the groups over slightly alternate routes all with accompanying expertise. This will be our exploratory run to see what we have to work with and how best for us to progress.

What do you need? A bike (not Mountainbike) in good condition with tyres pumped hard. Helmet (compulsary!).  You also need the means to sort out a puncture - two tubes, tyre levers, and a pump. You should never venture anywhere without these essentials. You also need to be prepared for whatever Mother Nature throws at us and a fold up rain jacket would also be a good idea. Drink bottle and some food in your back pocket (banana, nutrigrain or breakfast bar). You also need a moderate level of fitness and will need to be able to ride for 2 hours minimum at 14mph (which is a moderate touring speed). You dont join a cycling club to get fit, you need to be somewhat fit first and then you can get fitter by venturing further (and faster), in the comany of others.

As this will be the first of our club winter spins we would also invite all our racing members to support this ride and we can sort things into separate groups for week two.

What else do we intend to do for you? Apart from supported and advice we also intend to run a monthly workshop and some of the topics covered will be basic maintenence, explanation regarding Cycle racing which should improve your enjoyment as a fan, nutrition, sports pyschology, training plans, Track  - yes fixed wheel no brakes!
Basically we aim to to improve you as cyclists and help you achieve whatever your goals may be. We would also like to integrate you into our club and teach you about track racing and would need your help when it comes to running some of our events there. The reward as such would be to take pride to be involved in Ireland Premier Track Club and to share in its successes as we moved the sport  forward on the National and International stage.

Gold for Michelle Mullen

Posted August 9, 2011

Another 'Mullen' National Championship at the National Youth Track Championships where the younger sister of Track Sprinter, Michelle Mullen took the Women's U16 500m TT title. She also posted the fastest Flying 200 qualifier in her section and dispatched  Rachael Kaye Mellor (Orwell) to reach the Sprint final. This final, and indeed all the medal ride offs in the sprint section were deferred to September 11th due to heavy rain and will be run preceeding the Interprovincial set for that date.

Also last weekend Noel Tonge added another Silver to the 5 he won at the IVCA Track Championship when he took the bunch sprint in his section in the IVCA Age Related Road Championship with one rider haven gone clear earlier in the race.

European Junior C/ship

Posted July 29, 2011

Sundrive Junior Sprinter , Eoin Mullen has broken the Junior KiIo Record previously held by Felix English improving the time by over 2 seconds as he placed 5th in the European Championships in Anadia,  Portugal with a time of 1.05.565 sec.

Perhaps even more noteworthy is that he also broke both the Junior and Senior record for the Flying 200 with a time of 10.565.  The previous record was set in Moscow by former multiple National Sprint Champion Kieran Leahy in 2007.  He lost out in the Quarter Finals but wont the 5-8 sprint.  It is hugely significant that a Junior rider has now logged the fastest ever sprint qualifying time for an Irish rider and it bodes well for his future at International level.

His remaining event of the Chamionships is now the Keirin

Double Gold for Mullen

Posted July 16, 2011

Sundrive Sprnter Eoin Mullen returned from Aigle where is on a sprint scolarship with the UCI to contest his home Championship. No suprise in him posting the fastest qualifying 200 time but Matthew Adair wasn't rolling over in the final and took the fight to Eoin but faster is faster and when that is combined with experience there was only ever going to be one result.

Eoin also added the Junior Kilo title before flying back to Switzerland to put the finishing touches to his preperation for the Junior European Track Chamionships where he will contest Sprint, Kil and Keirin.

IVCA Track Masters

Meanwhile the clubs Veteran riders ran riot in the IVCA Masters taking 11 medals (2 Gold, 7 Silver and 3 Bronze) finishing with a Silver in the 135+ Team Sprint. This was even more special as it was the only team comprised of riders from the same club and posted a respectable time enroute!

Euro Junior Track C/ships

Posted July 5, 2011

Sundrive Sprinter Eoin Mullen has been selected for Ireland to ride in the European Jun/U23 Track C/ships 26-31 July 2011, Anadia, Portugal.

Eoin will travel directly fom Aigle where he has spent the last two months in a Sprint Scholarship under the direction of Fredrique Magne and World Cycling Centre sprint coaches and has put together a number of excellent performances against  top class International oppositionin his build up to these championships.

He qualified 2nd fastest and placed top 3 in events in both France and Germany and is gaining invaluable experience along the way.  His times have already taken the National Junior record set by Felix English, and times he has achieved outdoors have bettered the senior outdoor record by a significant amount.

We wish him well and would be confident that he will continuesto improve through the opportunity he has been given.
